James Louis “Jim” Longtin, 85, of Morrisonville, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. He was born in Ellenburg on March 13, 1935 the son of Louis and Irene Bovia Longtin.
Jim graduated from Mount Assumption Institute Class of 1953; studied to be a Roman Catholic priest at Oblate Seminary in Newburg, NY for two years and served in the U. S. Marines Corps for five years. He was a retired Correction Sergeant serving thirty years with the NYS Department of Corrections. Jim attended Clinton community College and SUNY Plattsburgh during his years as a correction officer. He also owned and operated a trucking business and a janitorial service during those years. Jim was a very active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Plattsburgh Lodge #621, serving on several committees and was an officer of the lodge, obtaining the high position of Exalted Ruler, a position he held twice. He served the lodge secretary for many years and was State Vice President of the NYS Elks association for the North District in 1999 to 2000. Jim was a member of the “Over Forty” skydiving club and a member of the American Legion Post 20 and the VFW Post 125.
Besides his wife Wanda, he leaves three children from a previous marriage a son; Jeffrey and Cindy Longtin, two daughters and a son in law; Mary and Steve Goddeau, Susan LaGree and companion Phillip Lee, three stepchildren; Tracey Desautels and her companion Ernie Lazure, Teri Ackey, Randy Ackey and his companion Priscilla McLean, two sisters; Sr. Mary Longtin of Franciscans of the Atonement and Ursula Rendaette, several grandchildren, step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Due to the current pandemic a memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Peter’s Church and will be announced.
Memorial donations may be offered to the Elmore S.P.C.A.
