John E. “Big John” Munson, 92, of Plattsburgh passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 26, 2020 with his loving family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Chazy on June 18, 1928 the son of Elmer and Eva (Matott) Munson. John attended Chazy and Mooers Schools. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1948. John owned and operated Munson Trucking for twenty five years and later along with his wife Ann, owned and operated North Bowl Lanes. He enjoyed bowling, camping, going to casinos, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family and friends. John served as a fire commissioner for District 3 Fire Department. He was a Life Member of the following organizations; Plattsburgh Bowling Association and Hall of Fame member, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125, American Legion Post 20 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Plattsburgh Lodge 621.
He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings; Helen Chauvin, Louella Mesick and Carl Munson.
John is survived by his wife of sixty six years Ann (Franklin) Munson, his children Daniel (Brenda) Munson and their children Katie and Daniel, Patti Caldwell and her daughter Jessica, Robert Munson (companion Kathie Cameron) and his daughters Karlie and Allison, John (Pamela) Munson and their children Ryan and Sara, his siblings; Betty O’Connell, Donald (Marlene) Munson, Gene (Joan) Munson, George (Carla) Munson, his great grandchildren, Alek, Ryker, Phynlee, Keegan, Kayne, Jett, and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, calling hours and funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Entombment with full military honors will be at the Plattsburgh Community Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to District 3 Fire Department, Morrisonville EMS or Hospice of the North Country.

Such a sad 😢 day to see that mr.Munson has passed my sympathies to mrs Munson and the entire family I had many wonderful conversations during my time of being his Barber I believe that he and my Dad Calvin BAIR will have much catching up to do in our lord’s beautiful kingdom ❤️
